Balloo Hire acquires Highway Plant

Balloo Hire Centres has acquired the trade and assets of Highway Plant Co Ltd, one of Northern Ireland’s leading specialist powered access businesses. This move is part of an accelerated growth programme and seeks to build on the core strengths of the powered access business and align them with Balloo’s activities.

Highway, based in Belfast, was established in 1983 and pioneered the use of access platforms in Northern Ireland by educating users to the safety benefits and timescale advantages of using powered access, rather than the traditional manual ladder and scaffold approach.

The acquisition will strengthen Balloo’s capability across the island of Ireland and complement their existing activities. Balloo has extensive experience with the construction, engineering, marine, TV & film production, facilities management and event industries.

The culture and values of Highway are already firmly aligned with those of Balloo, with their focus on safety, training and the provision of quality equipment to build lasting relationships with customers.

The acquisition will see Highway rebranded as Balloo with all current operational contacts remaining in place.

Balloo was itself acquired by Briggs Equipment in April 2019 and is overseen by the Briggs operation in Ireland, headquartered in Lisburn.

Andrew Neill, Managing Director of Briggs Equipment in Ireland commented, “Balloo is one of the largest and fastest growing plant companies in the Northern and Southern Irish markets. Our focus is to grow the business and continue to provide excellent levels of service to our loyal and growing customer base. This move is all about allowing our acquired businesses to flourish and play their part in the wider Briggs success story.”
