Briggs Defence celebrates 20 years of ‘Yellow Fleet’

Briggs Defence has been providing global equipment supply and support to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) for 20 years and is planning to commemorate the milestone with a special celebration in January 2018.

Evolving to keep pace with the changing defence industry landscape, the specialist division of Briggs Equipment is a respected MOD partner and now provides not only equipment, but also specialist logistics solutions incorporating asset management and engineering support.

Gary Clements from Briggs Defence said: “Maximising our experience and strong relationships has enabled us to become a trusted partner working across both Government and industry sectors.

“By having a focus on delivering value for money and flexibility while also keeping costs down, we’ve helped the MOD to realise key operational efficiencies, so it’s only fitting that we acknowledge the part played by suppliers and our own team and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ‘Yellow Fleet’.”

Between 1997 and 2013 fleet and service support was provided (through Barloworld DLS pre-2012) for the Pathfinder (DSDA/DM) and Triservice Materials Handling Service (TSMHS) contracts, when the fleet was optimised from 5,500 to 3,500 machines.

From 2013-2015, having secured a single £87million contract, Briggs Defence took responsibility for 3,000 assets including defence munitions and logistics and commodities services for the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and British Army.

Since 2015 Briggs Defence has held no less than eight defence-related contracts and is currently supporting 4,000+ assets across 289 locations in 13 countries. As well as the prestigious Defence Mechanical Handling Equipment contract, they include logistics and commodities services support to Kuehne + Nagel spanning five years and support for Babcock Defence Support Group and Landmarc Support Services. Briggs Defence also provides engineering support and parts supply for the Protected Engineering Equipment contract and the RAF’s Dantruck capability.

Briggs Defence has a proven track record as a complete solution provider, operating one of the country’s largest skilled engineering teams across both UK and overseas operations and managing a wide range of equipment, including forklift trucks, plant vehicles, trailers, tow tractors, container handlers and agricultural tractors.
