Safety Conference celebrates ten years of BE Safe

Safety Representatives from across the Briggs Equipment group of companies recently attended a special safety conference at the Yarnfield Training Centre in Staffordshire.

With the BE Safe initiative from Briggs Equipment now into its tenth year, the conference was the perfect opportunity to discuss, recognise, and highlight our ongoing dedication to a Safety First approach.

Reflecting on a Decade of BE Safe Initiative

Throughout the conference, the Safety Reps were able to reflect on our decade-long commitment to safety, the ongoing improvement in standards, and our consistent drive towards creating safer working environments both at Briggs locations and on customer sites. The conference is testament to how far the company has come and provided an opportunity to discuss how to continue to improve moving forward. There were also in-depth presentations delivered by senior leaders from across the business on a variety of topics, including Gavin Wickham, Dan Bovingdon, Mike Vaughan, Billy Allison and Scott McGready.

Charity Challenge: Building Scooters for a Cause

Apart from the serious discussions about safety, the conference also included a fun charity challenge. Each team was given a set of instructions and a time limit to build a scooter. The challenge was not only a team-building exercise but also a way to give back to the community. All the scooters built during the event will be donated to a local school or included in the Briggs Christmas raffle. The challenge was met with enthusiasm and, as evident from the photos, all the teams managed to successfully build their scooters within the given time limit.

Fundraising for Charity

The spirit of giving didn’t stop there! The conference also helped raise an incredible £1,000 for charity. £250 was donated to each of the four charities (included below), all of whom were nominated by the attendees.

Matt Shaw – Prostate Cancer UK

Wes Hawkins – Wood Green

Ryan Fleming – MS

Tom Poplett – Help for Heroes

The Key Role of Safety Representatives

At the conference, Gavin Wickham, Group Engineering Services Director, spoke about the success of the day and the vital role that safety representatives play in the business.

“These individuals are the driving force behind our safety culture, constantly improving standards across the business and with customers. Their dedication and commitment to safety have been instrumental in shaping our approach towards creating a safer working environment.

“It was brilliant to be able to bring everyone together at the Safety Conference and it was a testament to our dedication to safety and continuous improvement. Since our last conference, pre-pandemic, the scale of our Group has changed considerably, so it was great to welcome new colleagues from different businesses to hear more about their experiences and highlight the vital role that safety plays in our operations. As the Briggs business evolves, we will always remain committed to the “Safety First” value.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended the day and we look forward to hosting more of these events in the future!”
