Haldane Fisher choose Briggs as their sustainable future partner

The Haldane Fisher depot at Newry

Haldane Fisher is one of the leading independent suppliers to the construction industry in the UK and Ireland, serving both trade customers and the general public. They currently have 22 depots across the UK, with 12 of those in Northern Ireland. We recently visited their Head Office to look at how our equipment is improving their operations and find out about their plans for increased sustainability.

How have Briggs Equipment supported Haldane Fisher’s Newry site?

Transport Manager for Haldane Fisher, Colin Morrison, explained where the Briggs trucks are used on their large Newry site.

“We have lots of different work centres on site. We have trucks that service our sawmill and our roof truss manufacturing plants. We have trucks working the timber alleys where we have operators picking timber orders. We have various warehouses on site here. It’s a fast-paced environment, for sure. It’s absolutely essential that we have the fleet we have. That’s what Briggs bring to the table. They’re very, very good with that. For me, personally, I couldn’t do the job as well as I do if I didn’t have the support from Briggs and the team that they have.”

Commitment to renewable energy and environmental responsibility

Haldane Fisher Director of Sustainability, Gary Cranney, outlined the company’s commitment to renewable energy and environmental responsibility.

“We’re now going full EV (electric vehicle) for all our forklifts. We’ve fitted solar panels on a lot of our sites to ensure that the energy we’re using is sustainable and the next journey for us would be to look at battery storage so we can double shift. Safety goes hand in hand with sustainability for us. Safety features on forklifts are very, very important and we do find that Briggs seem to be well ahead of the curve – and they are coming to us time after time with improved features, which we are incorporating into all the new trucks that we’re replacing.”

Briggs Equipment Business Development Manager Clint Dankworth outlined the range of machinery he has provided to Haldane Fisher so far.

“Here at Haldane Fisher in Newry, they have a variety of MHE equipment, ranging from stackers to sideloaders to counterbalance electric trucks – namely Combilift and Hyster. We have started now with their net zero target to bring in electric counterbalances. Recently, I’ve got an order for two Combilift Cubes, which are going to start replacing their diesel trucks – a lot more versatile for their longer loads and can be utilised as they would the diesel forklifts.”

Huge thanks to Colin, Gary and the rest of the team for giving us their time and access to their very impressive facility in Newry. We look forward to working with them for many years to come.
