Team Briggs clock up more than 9,000 miles and raise £36k for Prostate Cancer UK

As part of Prostate Cancer UK’s ‘March the Month’ virtual walking challenge, Briggs Equipment employees have helped raise an incredible £36,000 for the charity.

Each participant was required to walk 11,000 steps a day throughout the month of March, to recognise the 11,000 dads, partners, grandads, sons, brothers, uncles and mates who die from prostate cancer every year.

As a collective, Team Briggs managed to amass an outstanding 22,811,917 steps during March, their 9,000 miles the equivalent of walking from their head office in Cannock to Lisbon in Portugal and back three times, and in turn raised £17,944. That will be matched by the Briggs business meaning a grand total of £36,000. The funds will go towards Prostate Cancer UK’s ongoing ground-breaking research and vital support for those affected by prostate cancer.

In terms of money raised and the level of participation, this is the single most successful charity event held by Briggs Equipment, and Team Briggs also came top of the entire national step count and funds raised for the March the Month challenge.

Janet Noble, from Briggs Equipment’s Charity Team, commented: “The March the Month virtual challenge has been an enormous success for Prostate Cancer UK and Briggs Equipment. Our people have once again shown their commitment to charitable causes and at a time when fundraising activities have been impacted so severely, this money will hopefully go a very long way.

“The research and support carried out by Prostate Cancer UK is helping to change the lives of so many people across the country and we’re proud to be supporting such a fantastic cause.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has made March the Month such a success and we’re now looking forward to even more activities and fundraising throughout 2021 with Prostate Cancer UK.”

One man dies every 45 minutes from prostate cancer, the most common cancer in men. Men over 50, black men and men with a family history of the disease are at higher risk.

Nicola Tallett, Director of Fundraising & Supporter Engagement at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “We’re incredibly proud and grateful that our partners Briggs Equipment joined our team of remarkable walkers taking on March the Month, and raising a terrific £36,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

“Seeing ‘Team Briggs’ get on the front foot and collectively register more than 21 million steps during the month was an incredible achievement.

“The challenge was to walk 11,000 steps each day in March to represent the men who die from prostate cancer every year in the UK. Together, we want to make prostate cancer something that the next generation of men do not fear and to continue to be here for them and their loved ones.

The Covid-19 pandemic has made living with a diagnosis only harder, but hard times show what people stand for. When the future is uncertain and the choices are tough, we stand for men with prostate cancer. We thank Briggs Equipment for standing and marching with us, and hope their weary walkers now enjoy a well-earned rest.”
