Briggs Equipment announces sponsorship of Smiths Racing BMW for 2019 British Superbikes Championship

Briggs Equipment have announced their new sponsorship deal with Smiths Racing BMW for the coming British Superbikes Championship season.

This will be the fifth season of involvement in Superbikes for Briggs and the new relationship with Smiths Racing brings with it the prospect of even more exciting action.

The team has two very established riders for 2019; Peter Hickman and James Ellison. Both riders will have the very latest Smiths Racing BMW S1000R machines are their disposal for the 12-round series which begins at Silverstone on 19th – 21st April. Hickman will also contest the full closed roads programme once again following a highly successful 2018.

Hickman had a stellar season on the roads, winning at every major road race, including the Isle of Man TT Races, International North West 200, Ulster Grand Prix as well as the Macau Grand Prix. Peter also claimed the outright TT lap record at 135.452mph on his way to victory on the Smiths BMW in the Senior TT race.

38-year-old James Ellison, who joins Smiths Racing BMW from rivals Anvil Hire TAG Racing, is a former World Endurance and double European Superstock champion who has just missed out on the BSB title in the past so is hoping he can improve on recent seasons and can rightly challenge, along with Hickman, for the crown.

Rebecca Smith, Smiths Racing BMW Team Owner said, “We are thrilled by the partnership with Briggs, a successful and innovative company whose industry expertise offers a new dynamic to our team. We look forward to continuing our success with the help of Briggs in 2019, and we look forward to welcoming their employees and guests on our journey.”

Leigh Edgley, Sales Director for Briggs Equipment said, “The British Superbikes championship provides a clear opportunity for us to not only raise awareness of our brand with national coverage, but also to engage with our staff and customers alike, many of whom follow the season and enjoy attending the race days.”
