Briggs Defence sponsors RLC 25th anniversary rugby tour

Briggs Defence is continuing its role as main sponsor of the Royal Logistic Corps’ (RLC) rugby activity. This includes a 16-day overseas tour, which has emerged as one of the highlights of the season to date.

The specialist division of asset management and engineering services specialist Briggs Equipment provided additional sponsorship support for the RLC RUFC’s 25th anniversary tour of the USA and Canada, which took place in May.

Brigadier Martin Moore, President of the Royal Logistic Corps RUFC, said: “Briggs Defence has been a valued partner for many years now, enabling us to foster a team spirit and help soldiers develop their personal skills through a positive rugby experience.

“We are most grateful for its continued support and, in particular, its sponsorship of our 25th anniversary tour, which promoted sportsmanship and camaraderie among the host clubs and venues while also helping us to accomplish wider military engagement overseas.”

Two squads – an RLC Senior XV and an RLC Women’s XV – competed in four fixtures against local and military teams in Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

Acknowledging the significant achievements of the RLC RUFC down the years, the commemorative tour was set up to promote rugby, and the benefits of Army sports in general, in a challenging environment that would provide opportunities for the development of coaching and management staff as well as players. Community engagement was also a vital part of the initiative and saw the RLC RUFC lead coaching workshops at schools in Vancouver and Seattle.

Steve Munson, Head of Finance at Briggs Defence, said: “Over the past 25 years the RLC RUFC’s many achievements have served to reinforce the positive impact that involvement in sport can achieve and we are delighted to continue in our role as main sponsor.

“The commemorative overseas tour was a huge success, reinforcing everything the RUFC and its rugby programme stands for in terms of engaging with young soldiers, helping them gain vital skills and driving home the importance of winning through teamwork.”

The largest Corps in the British Army, the Royal Logistic Corps is responsible for ensuring that everything from ammunition and letters to food reaches the right people and arrives in the appropriate place at the designated time.
